Catering Liability Insurance - Liability insurance protects you from the risk of any law suits and from being sued for claims that are within your insurance policy. For example if you were sued because you gave someone food poisoning this insurance would protect you (assuming it was covered in your policy). Usually the insurance company will pay an amount to the person suffering the loss and not yourself. There are three types of catering liability insurance:
- Public Liability - Public liability insurance offers protection if you inadvertently injure a person or damage their property.
- Product Liability - As its name suggests product liability insurance offers you protection against a faulty good.
- Employer Liability - This type of insurance offers you protection against an injury to an employee while they are working for you.
The amount of your liability insurance will depend on the risk of your business but usually catering liability insurance is in the millions of pounds.
Catering Trailer Insurance - Just as you can buy insurance for your car you can also buy insurance to protect your trailer from the possibility of fire, theft, accidental and intentional damage. As catering trailers often use hot oil and other heating devices there is always the chance that a fire will occur. You need to consider if you can afford to loose your business premises if the worst were to happen. You should check the specifics of your policy to see what exactly is covered, for example does your policy cover the cost of fixture and fittings and loss of stock?
Catering Trailer Break Down Insurance - If your trailer breaks down on the way to a show you could potentialy loose out on a days takings. If you have break down insurance, this will allow your trailer and vehicle to be recovered and can cover the staff too. Break down cover can often be very good value at under £75 a year, but be sure to check the fine print of any policy before singing.
Trailer Towing Insurance - This type of insurance will cover the cost of a third party towing company to come and recover your catering trailer and/or vehicle, depending on the policy.
